Collection site will be open 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday – Sunday

The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties, First Bank, and the Salvation Army have announced that the trailer parked at the First Bank building will now be open through the weekend, with a schedule of 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. each day. The collaborative effort began on Tuesday, with the trailer serving as a collection site for necessity items for the victims of the recent flooding in the middle Tennessee area.

The First Bank location is 615 Memorial Blvd., and the trailer is parked under the First Bank sign facing Memorial Blvd. Those who wish to donate are encouraged to deliver the following items to the trailer between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.: bottled water, non-perishable foods, diapers, baby food and formula, cleaning supplies and other necessity items. Donations of furniture and clothing are discouraged at this time.

The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties is also accepting monetary donations that will be allocated toward a flood relief fund to aid those affected by flood damage. Checks may be made out to the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties. Please include “Flood Relief Fund” in the memo line of the check. Checks may be delivered in person to 615 Memorial Blvd., Suite 200, or mailed to P.O. Box 330056, Murfreesboro, TN, 37133. Mayor instructs department to audit water meters.

Mayor Ronnie Erwin has heard rumors that there are some meters in La Vergne that are not being billed and are not accounted for. Therefore, he is asking for the water department and public works to conduct an audit of all of the water meters in town, making sure each one is accounted for. He also wants the departments  to ensure that each of the meters is being billed the proper amount each month. This audit should begin immediately.

Parking on streets ban lifted for two weeks

Because of the water issues in surrounding citizes, people are coming to La Vergne to stay with relatives and friends. Due to this, Mayor Ronnie Erwin and Police Chief Ted Boyd have lifted the ban on parking on streets for two weeks ONLY.

''We will not be writing tickets for the next two weeks,'' Erwin said. ''However, they cannot block driveways, fire hydrants and must make sure that there's enough room for emergency vehicles to get through the streets.''

Road Closers Due to Weather

At this hour several road remain closed due to high water or damage from the weather.  Road crews are out monitoring the conditions and plan to have all roads opened back up as soon as possible.

Fourth Annual EMS Day

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Service along with StoneCrest Medical Center will be hosting a free community day as part of National EMS Week.

This event will give the public an opportunity to view ambulances, police cars, fire trucks, K-9 patrol, rescue vehicles, helicopters and more.

We will also be conducting a car seat safety checks, blood pressure checks, health screenings and massages. We will have many children’s activities such as inflatable’s, kids games fire department smoke house. This is just a few things to do.
